Is He Prince Charming Or The Devil In Disguise? Top Tips On How To Spot An Online Dating Fraud

Whether you are a woman considering trying online dating for the first time or you are already enjoying meeting new people thanks to online dating, you may be wondering whether or not the online dating profiles you are reading are simply too good to be true. There are never any certainties but by following a few simple rules, you will minimise your chances of being taken for a ride and maybe also learn how to spot your true Knight in Shining Armour.

Online dating is often perceived as an opportunity for the less than scrupulous to prey on the unsuspecting. In reality, these people sadly exist in any area of life and you are probably no more likely to meet a fraud through online dating than you would be in any club or bar anywhere. So while it is always sensible to exercise caution, try not to view everyone with suspicion. Chances are, he is genuine and looking for a real relationship.

However, the first and most obvious rule for spotting an online dating fraud is if he seems too good to be true, he probably is. No one is perfect and while there are undoubtedly soul mates out there, if he responds to your online dating profile with an exact match to all the qualities you seek and shares every one of your interests, from collecting teddy bears to parachuting, delve a little deeper to find out how much he really knows about the details.

Another cause for concern is if he does not share any information with you willingly. If he is asking you all the questions, it may be that he genuinely just wants to find out more about you. But this should always be a two way process so try to ask him about himself too. If he is cagey in his responses or turns the conversation back round to you without answering, it may be he is trying to hide something. You both need to share information to find out what you have in common and you should be wary of giving away too much and getting nothing in return.

If you are at the point of exchanging emails and phone calls, alarm bells should be ringing if you are given times that you can not phone, particularly evenings and weekends, it could be a sign he is married. If you are arranging to meet someone, it is quite reasonable to want to know their home phone number and maybe place of work. If he knows your address, you should also know his.

Finally and most importantly, trust your instinct. If all does not seem well and the stories you are hearing do not add up, he probably is not all he says he is and could be the online dating fraud you have been trying to avoid. If you are not comfortable, forget him, get back to your online dating site and invest your time and efforts in to finding the true love of your life.
